Acrylic frag racks still get dinos!

Yep. I went to a fair amount of effort to get acrylic egg crate instead of the usual polystyrene for my 8 foot frag tray. I scrubbed it with vinegar before using it.

It has dinos, exactly like usual.

None of the normal treatments for dinos seem to work, as the rack is apparently fueling it. It has spread to the connected display, although not too bad there.

It will die down eventually I presume- for now I can just stop it by laying travertine tiles on top.

You could, "cure", the racks, but that would take time and space. The dinos will go away on their own once your bacteria builds up.

Happens to me when I clean my Gyres. I now no longer clean the cages, just let the coraline build up.

I was hoping the acrylic thing would be an improvement.

For what its worth, both the painted epoxy interior of the tray, and travertine tiles seems immune.

I don’t quite understand, why would acrylic prevent dinos? Why would any material for that mater (assuming it isn’t leaching something that would disrupt or kill them)?

I’ve never heard this and the biology that acrylic would prevent dinos just isn’t making sense to me. Can someone expand?
