Is it okay to build an acrylic tank into the wall? Or is that best left to glass? Are there any problems putting acrylic into a wall?

You'll get varied opinions and most of us will probably say glass, up to a certain point size wise.
Huge tanks it's often more practical to go acrylic, so I guess size in mind would be good to know.

I prefer glass, and prefer low iron glass

@davocean

I have a 4x4x2 acrylic cube I was thinking about putting into a corner wall. I have never seen an in wall acrylic tank. I would like to use that and save money, but want to make sure there wouldn’t be any issues.

Should be no issues I can think of.

Make sure you can reach everything inside of tank when you build cabinet, hopefully you have back side access.

Well I certainly hope not. I have a 240 acrylic built into my wall.

I don’t see any difference really. Either way, glass or acrylic, you aren’t building the wall on the tank but around the tank.

I have an acrylic in-wall. There is no difference mechanically between a glass and acrylic of the same size as far as in-wall is concerned. Just make sure you have plenty of room behind the tank to move around. You should be able to get a 44 gallon brute in there and maneuver around it still.
