Acrylic or glass sump

The reason that I never used one was simply due to the fact that they are not silent and that is important in my setup.

For a basement or remote sump or even in a stand, they are perfect.

It's really not loud, it's not. May not be as quite as a refrigerator but close... You could box it and put a fan on it. Or on home my home tanks I plumbed ( water feed and return ) up through my return air vents for my home furnace, worked absolutely fantastic! AND then if I turn A/C I can cool my tanks..! Then with a 110gal horse trough sump down stairs... It will never be able to flood my down stairs. I have two of these set-ups. One at work and home... They really not that loud... For the monies and longevity I will take these any day ever over anything else period... Happy Reefing Sir...

26 years is nice but they are loud, no doubt about it.

The Abyzz is as loud as your Iwaki when its disconnected, still in the box.

For some it may not matter but the only thing I hear around my tank is the disturbed water surface. Yep, I too was blown away.

Hi - if I can hear the pump it is loud ;)

I think they are great, if not one of the most reliable aquarium pumps made... and quiet compared to some other AC pumps for sure, but still too much noise for me to deal with in my setup.

My issue with the abyzz is that (at the cost) the investment is huge. How long will they be around for parts, etc. ? One can only guess.

Red Dragon 3 pumps had a very good run, but were extremely expensive. I have (3) of them. I am told that parts are no longer going to be available. No product can be supported forever for sure and each of us assign value differently.

Bean... Holy Crap I just googled the Abyzz a100... Holy Crap are you kinding me????? Hugh stinkin bucks.... There again I can listen to alittle bit noise for that kind of MONEY.. Holy **** and I said it!!! Iwaki... $465 no brainer here! And I am not deaf either, crap... Just about the same specs as the 100r as welll! Parts down the road is a concern as well, for THAT kind of monies it should last 26+ years, more like 50....

Had Red Dragon too, very good pumps too.

wait till you see the price for A200 or A400!

I'd rather pay than to listen to the constant droning of any A/C pump.... but I get it if you don't care for it.

As much as I can compliment the red dragon line (more so the 3 than the 5), this resonates extremely well for multiple things. Your warranty duration doesn't really matter if you don't exist or discontinue manufacturing the product.

I get where you come from with RE

Abyzz on the other hand has not discontinued any of their products. Even with the introduction of the IPU models, the 'regular' models are all still available for sale, due to price difference I suppose.

Holy Crap.... A400! That's insane it really is totally. For that kind of money I'll drive a Fiat or stick with a timex. Feel me... danggg that's almost as much as most people have in there whole reef system...

I better write them and have them sponsor me as I will push a absolute huge increase in sales there way! Nope not me.. Just remember most all people will not ever admit that they made a extremely bad decision, they just don't like too ever. I guess I will never have to worry about that one!~

The sticker price shock is real - you even quoted me twice. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I get it, I feel the same about people buying single polyp frags at $800 or fish way north of that; you're not alone.

15 years ago... I used to buy Medium Yellow Tangs for $14.50 each... Man have things changed... Let it be known I didn't vote that way,,, :) Good colorful Zoa frags have also increased over the last couple years as well... And you absolutely are right about $800 corals! Its really no wonder there are so many small water box's being sold. I average guy has to quite one - or two hobby's just to get into reefing. I believe its a sad deal. There are just so many sellers, dealers and wholesalers and they have to make monies rightfully so. But sell less charge more..? Do you think or even believe this is true???

I have no first hand experience with gyre pumps. I got a few used MP-10s several months ago and do like them, as much as I dislike ecotech products and loathe the Mobius application.
Death to Mobius! Off with their heads!
