I picked up my custom sump from the LFS yesterday, they have a guy that builds them. It doesn't have a top rim on it, and I guess I thought it would. It's not really a big deal other than now I'm concerned about the structural integrity. Should I send it back and have them put a top rim on it? or does it seem okay? It will be sitting on a concrete slab. Dimensions are 60x20x20

Prob 16 inch water height at max 1 st. chamber. It does not look like its too thin. The biggest section between braces looks to be about 12". I think it will be fine. I would have put a rim on it just to keep down the splash / salt creep

Thanks. The acrylic is 1/2 inch thick.
What’s the material thickness?
I vote for a piece of foam under sump.
Outside acrylic is 1/2 inch thick. Baffles are thinner. And agreed, was thinking I should put an old yoga mat or something under it.

1/2" thick acrylic? I wouldn't doubt it at all. I do agree a foam base would be ideal under it. Any foam will do :)

BTW, Beautiful sump! Nice, simple easy to clean design, super thick construction, love it! Is there a Refugium section in there somewhere?

Thanks for the reassurance! And yep, there’s 2 large sections in the middle. One was for a fuge, and one for the skimmer, but then I went and picked up a used external skimmer. One of the sections is 15x20 and the other is 20x20. It’ll be my first time having a refugium, I’m pretty excited about it :D

I love new and shiny acrylic! Looks great!! I was in TCR yesterday and got a few critters.
We went and picked up the sump from the shop and it made me so sad. It’s just not the same with out all the people and everybody sitting around talking and laughing. I can’t wait until it gets back to normal!

It was just me and Sam in the store and one other guy came in. Very quiet in there. They had two massive pink/red/orange meat corals maybe? Whatever they were, I do believe they would fit nicely in your new tank!

Haha I saw one of them while I was there. It was huge! But so cool! Maybe if they still have it by the time the new tank is ready, I don’t have a big enough spot in the sand for it in my current tank!
