I have a 135g freshwater acrylic tank with two cut outs for 24in lighting as in the pictures below. I'm trying to figure out lighting as I'm thinking the cutouts wont be enough room for me to have sufficient lighting throughout the tank. Would a couple 24 in lights be able to spread throughout the tank? Also considering the lights sit only a couple of inches above the water.

Also

Would it be safe to cut some of the acrylic on the top to make some more room for more lighting, or would that create stability issues, since the top is serving as some kind of support.

Thanks for the help!

My dad's tank looks similar it is a 4 ft 80 gallon salt we just hung a 3 ft led fixture about 18" above top of tank.

Cool, was the lightning able to spread? Or did the top acrylic block off any of it?

It spreads pretty good. Will be fine especially for freshwater where you don't need a specific par.

Oh I forgot to mention I'm switching to saltwater. Think it'll still work?

I had the same eurabracing on my 90. Ran a kessil 160s over each cutout and 4t5s. Spread was good but I did have to regularly remind myself to wipe down the underside of the bracing as salt creep would occasionally build. Never saw an issue with it though as far as spread in the t5s. Leds may be a different story, I don't really know though. Here's a pic of the 90 I had all lit up.

it looks like it came out good!! Did you hang the lights a certain height above the tank or we're you just able to let it sit on top of the bracing?

Does anyone know if the acrylic will block out the lighting? Or if the light shining through the glass will be fine?
