I was thinking about buying an acrylic tank and was wondering if there was any downside with acrylic? Thanks

Scratches, scratches, scratches, and scratches.

I was as careful as careful could be and still scratched the acrylic tank I had. :)
You can buff them out, but it's a PITA.

They're nice to look through and drill, for everything else they're a pain.
I leave them to the guys that really enjoy them and don't mind the other headaches.

Glass for display tanks. low-iron (Starfire) glass for the viewing pane.
use acrylic for all other, sumps, skimmers, reactors :).

Thanks for the info.I guess I will not be buying a new tank now.I found a ok deal on 210 acrylic tank but I dont want to deal with the scratches.

i have known people here in my area that uses it...im using it and so far everything is doing good...

I bought a used 300 gallon acrylic and had to buff out the scratches. It was pretty bad. I got them out and the tank looks great. You have to be careful with it not to get any grit between the cleaning magnet. You can use a scraper on coralline but it has to be a plastic one, not the metal. I use a Dobie cleaner under my magnet for cleaning the glass. For me, it was well worth the time and effort to polish the tank vs 3K+ for a new glass one.
