Im looking at a used tank that has 1/2" acrylic on all sides and 3/4" bottom. Tank measures 96"x48"x24" tall. Is half inch acrylic safe for a tank this size? Owner says thats why the manufacture recommended since its was 24" tall.

Tsunami Acrylics is the manufacture.

That seems like thin sides for that size. Is there a lot of top and cross bracing?
This is just a drawing I found online.

1/2" is technically fine and won't flood your house if the builder is skilled. That said, 1/2" at 24" high by 96" long will deflect more than what most folks would like to see, and 3/4" bottom is questionable. I wouldn't pay much more than free personally.

After doing a bit more research I found the sides are not 1/2"... Sides are 3/4" and top&bottom are 1/2"

What's everyone's opinion now?

Typical 96" is 1-1.25" thick.
I believe this is their 300g version is 3/4" not 1/2" and they use high quality acrylic sheets and I know of no failures out there so should be fine

a guy that sold me his tank, build him self a new tank measured at 96x 36x24, within half year one of the bottom seams cracked from stress, half inch sides!

Seems fine to me provided the top is adequately braced.

Eurobracing alone doesn't mean very much. Wall thickness is dependent on the aquarium's dimensions and the customer's tolerance for bracing size.

Yes, its eurobraced. Is not a cheap tank
3500 plus 5000 f
for sure.

Let's use the standard calculation for thickness and see what we get. Link below to the calculator.

Suggested vertical wall thickness per the formula is 0.787 inch thick.

would a center over flow make it weaker than the regular back corners & back walll overflows? Would like to have a tank in the center of the room with 360 viewing 8-10ft long 3-4 ft wide & 2-3ft tall

I prefer corner. One of mine was on the end and very convenient.
