Anyone do an ad-hoc setup for a chiller? While I have a gen for power outages and it covers me when the weather is cooler with my Inkbird and heaters, I realized I’m screwed if I have an outage in the summer as I have no way to cool the tank. With the chiller, want to have it on standby and deploy as needed rather than plumb it inline so wondering if anyone has done such a setup.

Thanks.

Chillers use lots of power, so your generator should have large capacity. Depending on size of your tank and room temp and duration of power outage, U could probably be OK with fans.

Yeah the one I’m looking at draws 470 watts. My gen can do 2K constant draw so I should be OK. Only other thing I would need during a power outage scenario would be return pump which draw 80 watts and ATO which draw nothing.
I guess I’m skeptical about how much fans can cool down the tank, but maybe this is misguided.

Do the test and find out if fans will work.Chillers are expensive and take space. I have one, but I live in Central Valley, CA, however one of my smaller tanks is chilled only by fans and so far it’s working well.
