Adams 40 Gallon Reef build

Now it’s just a waiting game while the new tank cycles and I figure out what to do with the 29 gallon on the left.

Starting to get the uglies. I decided to start using the Red Sea Mature Reef Kit and it definitely seems to be doing what they say with levels and all. Skimmer is finally starting to kick in with skimmate building up.

First 2 residence to start the cleanup of the uglies. 2 Mexican Turbos from my 29 gallon. If they make it this weekend I’ll pick up a full crew.

Trying a lights out for a while to rid some of the algae so the cuc can catch up.
Added 10 Blue Leg Hermits, 10 Red Leg Hermits. 1 Zebra Turbo Snail and a Trochus Snail.

Added in 6 more Mexican Turbos and back to lights on. Rocks and sand look good but the back wall still needs some work. This weekend I’ll probably get the first fish and throw in a frag of Birdsnest or Digitata and see how things go. Levels look good. NO3 at 5 ppm and PO4 at 0 ppm. Also started using Vibrant at 4ml a week. Once the back wall is clear I’ll cut it down to the maintenance level of 4ml every two weeks.

Not quite sure yet. I’m thinking just the basics. A pair of OC Clowns, Royal Gramma or a Dottyback, Lawnmower Blenny, maybe a pair of Chalk Basslets and a pair of Banggai Cardinalfish

Off topic.

I was just going over your equipment list... your tank volume and heater is similar to mine. Have you noticed your heater turned on for long periods at a time?

I have a 40 g cube, 100w Eheim jager heater in the fuge sump. Just curious if your having the same issue as me with the heater not turning off. Starting to think I should of went with a 150w.

Yea I’m having the same issue. Sometimes the tank dips down to 75 f. if I move the house ac below 75 f. Which for me and my wife is a little high. We generally keep our ac at 72-73 f. I’m either going to pickup another 100watt or go with a 150watt.

40 gallons with additional sump volume is a lot for a single 100W in my opinion. I like using 2 heaters for redundancy too. I would probably use 2 x 150W. I think it would be fine though to simply add a second 100W.

Couple of new inhabitants. If these don’t make it, I have more in the other tank.
