Have a 90 gal and 25 gal sump. Want to section off a refugium...that's not an issue.

But not sure of adding a sump is a true benefit or a bad idea.

Enjoy the hobby for it's interesting complexities but sometimes it is just si indecisive and confusing.

Any thoughts, experiences with refugiums much appreciated. Thanks

I like sumps and the bigger the better.

You can stick all sorts of equipment in a sump. Heaters, filter socks, skimmers, a refugium for macro algae and nutrient export and an auto top off.

I have a refugium with chaeto in it under a powerful light. I use the chaeto to export nitrates and phosphates from the system and it works pretty well. Bulk reef Supply has a series of videos on chaeto in refugium that you might want to watch.

The chaeto will die if either nitrates or phosphates go to zero or if your light is not strong enough.

+1 check out the BRS website, they have videos for many topics including chaetomorpha. They run actual tests and provide results. I have utilized alot of information provided by their videos. I personally like running a fuge with chaeto, as it does help outcompete certain types of nuisance algae for nutrients, without the use of chemicals.. ime. A good fuge light is key.

Fuges can be a benefit. They also can be some work.
What is your main reason for wanting to add it and what are you wanting to put in it?
