Added t5 to my led, big change

About 3 weeks ago I added one t5 to my led lights( Chinese black boxes) and I have to say have seen a big difference on my sps specially these 2. The pocillopora has alot of white on its under side and this tri color ( I think) has really colored up or more, now with shades of green and blue tips.

Just getting back into the hobby after a 10 year layoff and I cannot understand why this isn't common practice.

I use t5ho fixtures to start my vegetable seeds every year so I guess I see first hand the benefits.

Yes, these $2700 geismann fixtures are proof of that. Maybe what I was looking for is more affordable. My hydroplanet t5ho fixtures I use for growing plants are $150 a piece.

I just think they would be more widely used if they weren't so ridiculously priced out of most people's range.

Just add a T5 retrofit kit...inexpensive and a great addition to LEDs. Did this with my LEDs and cant see ever running a tank without this set up.

Sure, if you look for the most expensive example. ATI makes several half that price, many more are retrofit or bolt on that are much, much cheaper. I use a 6 bulb ATI fixture with Reef Brite LEDs bolted on.

Depends on what you're looking for. I run Blue+, Coral+, Purple+

I used leds for a couple of years and some corals grew but other sps stayed brown. Maybe the units that I was using was not enough. I am using an ATI powermodule now 6x24w and I cant be any happier. Here is a pic of my corals:

I’ve been using LED for 10 years. Just switched back to halide and/or T5 for most of my tanks. The growth and color has been very improved.

Two old school AI hydra 26 and 2 T5 retrofit bulb works nice for me...

The places that kill it with LED typically use Radions, they typically mount them very high off the tank (like 2') and they typically use a butt load of them. I know WWC is one of them. They have T5's, but their T5's don't have reflectors and they've claimed they're used when doing maintenance -- So they're basically work lights if Radions are off.

Just switched my coral pluses to giesseman actinic plus. Basically a blue plus. I like it.

The best thing I've done for my tank was add T5s to supplement my LEDs. I am using ATI blue+ and purple. Growth is much better and the corals seem to react better as a result. I definitely like my LEDs but the addition of T5s seems to be a great combination.

The next step in this evolution is to realize that the LEDs are now supplementing your T5s. Soon, you start to wonder that if just one or two bulbs did "all of this," then what will a few more do? ...and you would be right for thinking this.
