Hi everyone, I recently got a cleaner shrimp from the lfs and he's big. I'm now reading that they do well in pairs, and that they'll reproduce and hatch in the tank.

Questions:

Okay to have two cleaners in a 25 gallon tank?

Okay to add a small cleaner to the tank that already has a large cleaner? (Probably half the size)

I'm not sure about having two giant cleaners swimming around, just due to the irritation of the Corals?

I have two and they’re fine

What size tank, and did you introduce a small one to a large one?
Now they’re in a 45 gallon cube box they were in a 29 gallon oceanic biocube. I did introduce a small one to a large one

Awesome - thanks! That makes me feel a bit more confident with it.
Just make sure you acclimate it very slowly with a cup or a drip line otherwise it may not have a good outcome

Honestly I've never acclimated any fish or inverts [not including online purchases], and I've never had a problem with anything dying.

Thats a recipe for disaster.

Is you tank a fowlr?

Is the fish store not treating their livestock with medication?

Are your tanks at the same specific gravity as the store tanks?

At minimum:
Temperature
Specific Gravity
PH

Should be similar or same

Thanks for the concern - and in general I agree it's a good thing to do. I've never done it with the exception of online orders and I've never had any issues.

I float for temp, check sg and pull them from the bag and dump em in. Done it in all of my tanks since I started reefing.

If sg is not within a point or so, I do the half water volume type acclimation.

To be clear, I wouldn't recommend following my lead here to anyone new who's reading!

So you are temperature and specific gravity acclimating.

Just not acclimating for PH. Which may not be too bad, as long as the PH in your tank is not 12 and the LFS is 7

Yeah I suppose - I can't think of the last time I actually floated something, but it would be something I would do if I thought necessary.

On the Salinity, as long as they're anywhere close I just pick and dump [never dumping the water in, just grabbing the fish/shrimp/snail with my hand and placing in the tank].

I've only ever drip acclimated two things to my tank, and they both died [both were online purchases - a clam and a coral beauty].

I think it's more stressful to them than just getting them in.

Drip acclimation with the bag in the sump will control the temperature as well.

If you dont have a sump, just floating the bag with 50% tank water for a couple mins should do.

Safest method
