Adding a 72 reefbrite blue led to my hydra 52 hd

Hi everyone. I am fairly new to the hobby. I was interested in knowing what you all thought about adding a 72 inch reefbrite led blue to my 3 hydra 52 hd. I have them over a 250 gallon mixed reef. I was wondering if you all think the HD’s are enough or if adding the reefbrite would add better growth and coloration. Thank you in advance for your input.

It looks like you already have the growth and coloration down pat. Couldn't hurt in the overall look to the eye though.

Thanks pdub. I didn’t really like the 2 shadows in between the lights. Also didn’t want to buy two more lights. Thinking the strip would help with that?

I think that is just a result of the overflows. I do think it would help mute the shadowing, placement dependent of course.

Yes get at least one 72” reefbrite XHO Blue . I did and it looks great!

3 wouldn’t be enough for an SPS tank but it appears your mostly, if not all, LPS and softies so those will suffice. You could save $$ on the reefbrites and raise your 3 Hydras (and boost the intensity a little to offset) for more spread. Overall, for your current corals, adding the reefbrites would be more for visual use than necessity for coral growth in my opinion.

I have three systems that I have added Reefbrite XHO fixtures and a t5 Actinic to about a year ago. My 210 sps Display tank used to have 3 Hydra 52’s. I liked the first Reefbrite so much that I added a second one and another t5 actinic. I was able to turn down the Hydra 52s as most of the blue light came from the Reefbrite brides. The shadowing between the lights went away and I get better PAR at depth. I moved the Hydra 52s over to dual 40gal breeder frag tanks and repeated the set up. I replaced the Hydras with some OBD 2 puck LEDs. The end result is that all of my sps corals are popping now! Way more than with the Hydras alone.

What does OBD mean?
