adding a bigger sump

Other than the ato problem I just posted, I have another question. I am building a new cabinet for my 46bf. The cabinet will be built big enough for a 4' long upgrade in the future. I am wanting to go ahaed and put a 30gl fuge/sump in while I'm at it. I now am using a 10gl. Will this cause a big cycling problem even though it will be seeded with currant live rock? Do I need to cycle it before hooking it to my 46?

Bump.... surely someone has put a bigger sump in. Im going from a 46 dt with a 10gl. sump to a 46dt with a 30gl. sump. Will I have a cycle problem?

no you should be fine i just did it recently and i just used it as my water change that way i didnt do that then do a water change and have to much new water i have a 40 gallon bowfront and i have about 30 in my sump big sump for me to upgrade big later to lol but everything turned out great for me good luck!

+1 No big deal

Increasing your volume by a little over 30 percent +/- (depending on the actual volume of your setup including the sump.) with new SW won't harm anything as long as temperature is relatively close.

I'll do what I can on pics. I'm going to build a cabinet that will later hold a 120, a new hood for the 46 bf and put a 30gl fuge/sump in. I may just do a thread on all this...:bigsmile:

im curious to see how you do your hood on you bf i just built one for mine i didnt put the bow in the hood cause i didnt have alot of tools that i could use and i would think it would limit some things you would wanna put in it

I'm gonna do the bow and everything. I have a vast knowledge in wood working so it won't be too much of a challange. I'll try to do a step by step to help people out.
