I'm voting yes. R2R has one of the nicest communities on the web and this site is easy to negotiate. I have fresh and salt tanks but I've found more support here than I have anywhere for my fresh hobby.

I think most forget that we indeed had a FW section at one time, didn't have much traction before, perhaps its time for that change again, helping people out is why we are all here, and besides, you don't have to look in the FW threads if you don't want to.

I didn’t realize R2R had a freshwater section before. Did they have to remove it because it caused too much confusion? Did it make the site hard to navigate? When was it discontinued? How did R2R become the biggest reefing forum in the world with this skeleton in its closet?

First off, thanks for starting such a dynamic thread/pole. Note that we have a friendly place to discuss topics, swearing is not allowed to keep it family-friendly, and being nice means a lot of people will not vote "No."

I read the first 4 pages, jumped to the polling, and now I want to know if I can get a new member name when the site gets flooded with freshwater?
"KrisReef" won't work well for a universal site.
Also; I want Brackish, Ponds, and Artic Reef information. Artic Reefs are the hottest topic for scientific research right now and this site needs to be at the forefront; because, um,

"it's already the best SALT water reef site in the universe and we need to fix all the other water sites that really lag?"

Keep it simple, make a new site(s) if you don't want to ruin this one. Most honest folk will tell you that lowering the salinity on a reef is going to cause algae problems and coral death over the long haul.

The universe is expanding seemingly out of control. "All opinions are valid" but not all of them make good sense. I hope mine fits here somewhere.

So maybe e the middle vote( to be fair) should be "im fine with or without it". The way you worded it is misleading Being 'fine with it' doesn't t seem at all equivalent "i want it some it means', to me it means "I am not going to leave the site if there is one but I don t care" - to me this makes the vote 17% for 50% against

I voted no. While I’m a fan of fresh water tanks and had many growing up, that’s not what I come here for. When I come to the site, the new posts that show up are like a brief news feed to the salt water world. I think by adding freshwater you are going to dilute the feed with things that are off topic from the purpose of the forum. The forums brand is centered around reef keeping and all things salt water. I think it should stay that way.

The above is just my opinion. I do see why the topics been brought up. I see freshwater planted tank advertisements and social media posts on Instagram showing up alongside reef tank posts all the time so it could be done. Theres actually many that are incredible and look like complete works of art. There’s also many forums on this page I never or rarely visit, so at the end of the day I don’t think it would detract from the site. There have even been things like shrimp tank build contest threads that seemed very popular.

I’ve been noticing that people aren’t reading through the entire thread where some important points have been made but that’s ok. Some of the most important right now is that if there is a freshwater forum, it will be separated. I’m noticing many people are voting no because they think it will be messy and they won’t get to see the reef posts. As I said in the thread on page like I don’t know 5 or something, there could be an option for seeing the freshwater or seeing the reef or seeing both.

Most people who have a reef tank (not all) have or at one point n their life have had a freshwater tank. I actually only have a freshwater tank now because my reef died over the summer. ANyways so I talked to @revhtree and he said maybe so i just wanted to see if anyone else would want this. R2r is a friendlier place than other forums so that’s why i though of this. Please vote below or above wherever it shows up.

That is a really interesting question. Made me think about it for a while. I started with a freshwater aquarium (err....goldfish bowl) years ago when I was around grade 4(ish). Loved that fish even though I wasn't the best at looking after the fish. I've had numerous fresh water systems over the past few decades and have only recently (last year) moved into reef aquariums. I can definitely say that while researching salt water I was quite confused by terms and ways of doing things, that although may have sounded similar, were actually quite different. It was hugely beneficial to be able to go to a source (R2R) that was strictly salt water as that meant that the information was definitely meant for salt water systems....no ambiguity in terms. I think that a reef site needs to stay focused on that end of the aquarium industry as any mixing of the two systems could easily lead to confusion amoungst newbies, (which I am most definitely one of).

I said no because I want a brackish water site...

This site has a wealth of reef/saltwater topics...I've only just begun to scratch the surface. I would be great to have a FW site similar to it but how involved are FW tanks(other than planted) with regard to biodiversity. I think of reefs as ecosystems, but don't think of the current FW hobby that way....I would like to see it go that way.

I “home forum” is freshwater is salt section. This forum is obviously much better for salt so I post here primarily now.

Changed the poll so two answers for my opinion and two for everyone else. It messy now though because I can’t remove choices
