I have a 420g fowlr and I am about to add a further five fish to the tank including a juvenile goldflake. The tank already has several angels and tangs - blue line, emperor, asfur, blue face, scribble, orange shoulder, convict, and naso. I am adding a mimic, lavender, dussi, and majestic with the goldflake. All fish are 1.5 - 3 inches long and for the most part there is minimal aggression in the tank - some minor chasing but nothing serious. The question is due to the goldflake a smaller size 1.5 - 1 inches should I hold it in an isolation box for a while until the other fish are used to it or put it in together with the other fish assuming the number will minimise any risk of targeting the goldflake. It is an expensive fish that I have already invested a lot of time in qt’ing and treating for flukes. It is eating so no concern there.

My worry is that eventually I have to release it and it will potentially see the focus of other fish then rather than the kaos of being added with a group. Do fish get used to tank mates using an isolation box?

thanks.

I personally have not had good luck with acclimation boxes....but I seem to be in the minority. Every time I have used one, the existing fish in the tank steer clear of the box, due to fear of something new being in the tank.....not once ever even looking at the fish. As soon as the fish is in and the box is removed, it is a different story. That being said, I still use them, hoping it is helping in some way :)
