I have a single clown fish in my tank. He's been the only clown for about 2years. Would it be ill advised to add another much smaller clown thinking that the smaller one will be submissive to the larger?

If he has been in there 2 years its safe to say he is a SHE and yes adding a smaller one would be perfect. Wat size tank by the way?

Depends on tank size and the clown. Definitely add as small as you can find. Same species too. As said, it is a she now. :)

By species you mean ocelaris
(?spelling?) would not work by mixing a fancy clown or black ice clown or snowflake?

What species now? I hear that maroons can be hard to partner up. Occelaris are usually easy as are percs. (except my oc. blk and wht). Just get a small baby and keep an eye on them. Cover the tank if it isn't because at first may chase and jump a bit. I have a pair of percs in my 40B. I had the one for a year prior to adding my new baby. They took to each other immediately. The size difference was huge though.

Yes, many fancy clowns are all occellaris, so they would all be fine. Just not a clarki or skunk or maroon with the oce.

I have a snowflake and a mocha happily bonded in my 210g.

The one I have is an ocellaris (it was cheap and I was just getting into feeding, didn't know if I could keep anything alive). I like the fancy clowns and black ice clowns but don't know if they would work with my existing clown.
