So I have a Nuvo 10g tank, which is currently having a little problem with some hair algae. I use pure 0 tds water, and a good water change schedule. However, I am having trouble getting rid of the algae. All of the corals are healthy and colorful, but the algae can get unsightly at times. The only form of nutrient export I am running is a protein skimmer. I am thinking of adding a refugium with chaetomorpha in one of the chambers of the built in sump. So, I have the following questions: Can I add macro algae into a one year old tank? Will I need to do something to give the newly added macro algae a chance to obtain nutrients against the hair algae, like a display blackout? And lastly, will the chaeto outcompete the hair algae for nutrients?

I also having the same issue in my 1.5 yr old 29g biocube so I'm following along .. The gha keeps showing up here and there.

What is your po4 and no3 at ?
I don’t know exactly as I haven’t tested the past week, but last week it was PHOS: 0.02 ppm and NITRATE: 1-2 ppm. This can be unreliable as the algae can “lock away” some nutrients.
