okay so i have a 40 gallon cube w/ sump. its a mixed reef but i would like to add in a display refugium.

it will share the same sump the idea is to have my main tank at the current height it is now, beside it but lower then the DT

the main tank will drain into the display refugium then from the display fuge into the sump then from there get pumped back into the main tank

do yall see any issues with this?

Only issue I would see is if you are growing pods or something in your fuge, they could get sucked into the filtration in your sump before they make it back into the tank. Should work fine besides that

Is there an advantage of this vs your new display refugium (dr) just slaving off the same sump?
Drill an overflow and put another, smaller return pump to supply the dr.
Another advantage of this setup is not all the dt overflow must go thru the dr.
Also with 2nd return pump ($30) dr can be at the same height as the dt.

Yes could do that I already have a overflow not being used I can drill into it

Yeah I would do this.

It's going to be easier to balance two separate up/down circuits than try to balance a three-part circuit.
