Hi.

I just bought a Icecap K1-50 skimmer. The skimmer didn't come with a controllable DC pump or air adjustment. So I'm thinking about adding a valve it to the silencer to restrict the air flow into the pump. something like this, but I will be adding the ball valve on top of the the silencer:

If run like this long term, will the restricted airflow damage/affect the longevity of the skimmer's pump?

It will speed up the pump. Not sure if it draws more power or lowers it. But drawing more power would decrese the pumps life slightly. I wouldn't worry about it.
