It has been documented that corals uptake ammonia directly. Could there be a potential benefit to adding ammonia directly to a nutrient starved reef tank if in the correct quantity and control?
My system is fallow, fish removed for treatment and keep display fallow to starve out parasites. My corals need nutrients, I do feed coral foods however they seem to have suffered a lot with out fish. I've added nitrates and that is now 5ppm. PO4 is undetectable with my Hana ULR checker. I want to bring that up also.
Just for though, I would like to discuss and research this. Who knows, we could learn something.
Ammonia is an organic form of nitrogen and nitrates are inorganic. So they may have different affects on coral metabolism.
