I just added my first Clown (Picasso) last Saturday, and I am curious how fast I should/can add another Clown. I was wanting to get an Ocellaris for my second. I have heard that it is good to get another one sooner rather than later, in case the first one becomes territorial. I have no problem waiting, however I don't want to wait too long and then not be able to get a second at all. I also have a Scarlet Skunk Shrimp in as well. Put in the same day as the Picasso. Thanks in advance.

What size is your current clown? I just added a pair and made sure they were both small and from tanks with a decent population of clowns. I went with Orange Storm and Black and White.

My current clown is pretty small. I would say no more than 2 inches.

Yup, get a small one
and honestly IMO you should buy the two at the same time. It's like with tangs, introduce them at the same time,

Alright, I appreciate the feedback. Should I get the second one sooner, rather than later though? Or if I get a smaller one, does the timing matter?

I added my Percula Picasso one month after I added my Black Ocellaris and they have been getting along fine from the start, granted they have only been together for two days but no fighting whatsoever. The Picasso is smaller then the Ocellaris.

Add it as soon as you can, when I added my new clown to my older clown there was a big fight for dominance.

My Orange Storm was from a different tank than the Black and White but was pretty obviously the dominant one as soon as they hit the tank. Again, both were like 1.5" at most so very small. The longer you wait, I think the more risk you run. I think the primary importance is getting a small one that is not seeking to be Queen Bee for second clown.

Alright, I shall go out this weekend and look for a smaller Ocellaris then. Thank you all for the help and suggestions.

Typically how many clowns can you have in a tank? I have two black ocellaris clowns. I would like to add another paid. I have a 50 gallon tank, but what're peoples thoughts?

My saddleback just died today so I have a smaller ocelleris that I’m looking to pair with a new one. I guess getting a smaller new clown is the way to go?

Two clowns is all you will get in a tank once they pair up and begin spawning. Some caveats to this statement, but assuming you do not have a 400g tank or 40 anemones.

I have had a clownfish in a tank for about one week then two weeks later I added two more clownfish here we are three weeks they are all fine together hope this helps( in my option adding another one should be fine put the bag in the top so they can see each other safely before adding)
