I have a few shells from the beach (from a few years ago) that I want to throw in the tank for my hermits. Perhaps that will help with the hermit on snail-icide. I'm guessing it's not a good idea to just throw them in, but I'm unsure how to treat the shells before, any suggestions would be welcome.

I have collected shells and thrown them into my tank for many years and will indeed help with predation of your live snails. I usually soak them in some FW for a few days just to be safe. Love watching hermits try out new shells for fit. Also place some extra or larger snail shells in the fuge for mysid shrimp to spawn in.

Cheers, Todd
