I have a Red Sea Max E260 with the upgrade sump. It's been up and running just under 1 year. All is good except for some brown algae on the substrate. I have just installed a Skimz algae reactor with some Chaeto. I have 8 small fish and some Zoas, Frogspawn and Yumas. I have some Purigen and Chemipure Elite and wondering if it will be OK to add these to my system or will it be to much of a shock to it? Should I do both or use just use one of the two? I have not run any carbon and my water is pretty clear.

Chemipure Elite has GFO in it, so it will reduce phosphates fairly quickly, so I would use that but keep an eye on phosphate levels, as you do not want them to completely drop.

When I use chemipure elite, I usually put it in overnight and take it out the next day and check water parameters. If phosphate is too high still I put it back in for a few hours, but I'm also using it on a 20 gallon reef, so parameters will drop a lot faster than a larger tank.

I've used purigen before as well, but I've found it isn't as potent as chemipure elite. I would use the chemipure by itself for now and then incorporate the purigen after the chemipure is depleted or parameters still don't end up being where you would like them to be.
