Adding Chromis to a new tank

So i got water in my new 400gal system and has been running for about a week on and off. Salinity and temp is all stabilized now but i started with dry rock so nothing is going to kick off the cycle except for a fish, shrimp, or some expensive start stuff.

You guys think i can safely add a couple chromis to the tank and not kill them at this point to get things going? Im thinking the volume of water will help minimize the ammonia and nitrite concentrations once the cycle starts too...

with 400 gallons I think you would be fine to add a few chromis to the system. The only concern I would have would be the amount of feeding they would need to get enough food in the system by themselves. Best bet I would think would be to totally shut off all pumps and let the water settle so they were fed in one area only and the food doesn't blow all over and get away from them.

Why not just throw in a couple of frozen or fresh table shrimp and go from there??

Yeah. Decomposing food will help the cycle too though

decomposing food however can cause an ammonia spike which could be avoided since you have fish in the system.. rather be cautious than call on the reaper.

I agree with this^^^. Just throw some table shrimp in there and no worries about your cycle or livestock loss.

Chromis are nice reef fish to have anyways.... In a large system like that why not add a few. It's not like they will take up alot of space

I would stray away from adding fish to a week old system. IMHO you are asking for problems. Do the shrimp or even just a pinch of food. I've even cycled tanks with adding nothing at all.

It would probably be OK to add a few chromis. Do you plan on QT'ing new additions? I have heard too many horror stories of people with large tanks having their whole fish population wiped out since they did not QT. Good luck with your tank!
