Adding firefish to existing fire

I had a firefish pair and they were beautiful until one made the jump of faith before they had their own cave. That being said, can I add another (smaller) fire fish to the tank so that they can pair, or will it cause problems?

There is no reliable way to determine gender on firefish and firefish of the same gender are intolerant of each other. It would be a risk adding a new one to an established one.

I didn't even know they were gender specific. Guess he is a loaner now. Thanks
