My reef tank is now one year old, although in the early days i did introduce a regal tang and within days had the white spot ich. Only one or two fish seem to suffer from it, i managed to get rid of visible signs although the regal tang died. (I have always blamed him for contaminating the tank. Thank god i have had no outbreak or spread of this horrible disease since). I am now probably 6 or 7 months further on with an established and healthy aquarium. My question is, is it safe to introduce a new fish which is prone to white spot if the tank has been free of disease for 6 months and the new fish has been quarantined at the lfs with no signs of trouble, or is it a case of white spot is always present until stress brings it out.

If there were no fish in your tank for 6-7 months then the ich should have died off. I’m not sure I would trust no sign of illness at the fish store. Sometimes stores put enough copper in their system to inhibit symptoms but not to treat the illness. I encourage you to do your own medicated quarantine and then add the new fish.

Unfortunately i dont have a qt tank and i have had about 30 fish of various types happy for 7 mths or so.... i guess its too much to risk to add anything new

Setting up a QT is pretty darn easy if you decide to go down that route.
I have logistic issues with a qt tank plus i am prob at the stage when either i consider i am fully stocked or just had one more... a qt tank for one addition is too much plus i have never had a qt arrangement for the existing imhabitants. Typical lazy brit
