Adding herbie method to standard overflow

Is it common to drill a extra hole for the herbie method on a standard tank with standard overflow(1return/1drain)? I just ordered a deep blue 80 rimless frag w/optipure and I was thinking of drilling a addition hole on the back of the tank within the overflow box to set up a herbie method style drain system. Is this common? should i even bother?

I would say common would be to run both as drains and run the return over the side.
