I know this has been asked before but wanted to double check before I screw up my tank. I am going to add some more live sand to my tank. I currently only have about a half inch (I bought a 40 pound bag for my 3'x2' tank but guess it was not enough). My plan was too not wash it (since its live) and slowly lower it in cups and gently place it on top of my existing sand to not create too much of a sand storm. I was going to do it over several days to not tick of my fish/corals too much.

Will I kill my good bacteria on my sand band and/or cause an ammonia spike. If I open the live sand bag and dont put it in all right away am I going to kill the good bacteria on the new sand? Anything else I should be concerned about?

My last bag I added I cleaned the the outter plastic bag it came in really really good added some of the tank water to finish filling it up so water didn’t rush in and slowly took it to the bottom I still made a mess cloudy waters but not like the initial bags that I just tossed in thinking oh it’s love it won’t cloud up that much smh.

Edit: btw it was close the bag I super rinsed it in my bathtub to make sure it was clean or “clean” before putting that in my water
