I was thinking about adding some encrusting montis to a few bare spots between my "stick". Good...bad idea. Will there be fighting one the encrusting reach the bases of the acros?

Anybody done this? Experiencs?

Thanks in advance.

IME there will probably be fighting and I would imagine the acro would win. I have had acro's kill portions of some of my monti's before. I think you should add some monti's though, just pay attention to the monti as it grow closer to the acro. When it gets too close just frag the monti and trade it for something.

If the monti starts encrusting to the rock that is in your tank, it will likely be difficult to get out. Monti's and Acros can and will fight. Sometimes they will just put up a barrier between one another an concentrate on growing in another direction. But keep in mind that montis typically grow faster than acros and they can overgrow an acro. I have a purple haze monti that is in the process of completely choking out an ORA Chips acro colony. Nothing I can really do about it either. Just be careful and give them plenty of room. But eventually they will run into each other and you may not like the result. It's what happens naturally in the ocean. Not discouraging you at all as montis can fill space VERY well. But just want to make sure you know that they will battle...
