Hello reefers just a quick question I have that I’ve read mixed things online about. Around 2 months ago I upgraded my evo 13.5 to a lagoon 25. transferred all LR from evo To the new lagoon. Which was 15-20lbs. Can I add more dry live rock (from brs). without causing a cycle or anything else that could harm the tank?

Should I add smaller pieces slowly? Or could I add another 10 pounds without issue?

Pic of the lagoon attached
Edit corals are closing because it’s night just turned the whites up for picture.

I added a piece that has been soaking in saltwater for months, It started growing dinos on it within a week. Pulled it out and not doing that again.

What dry live rock are you wanting to add?
If its Marco then its safe to add as much as you want. Rinse the dust off first really well.

I add fist sized pieces of dry rock all the time with no problem. I use it for Xenia, GSP and eventually Clove Polyps and Zoas.

Will be good putting in slowly. Put in watch it get covered in diatoms then after that’s clear add more and repeat til gone.

I agree, nice and slow and it'll be fine (ugly for a bit, but fine)

Well, here is the deal. You can but be prepared and/or expect a mini cycle. This isn't a bad per say but you will see the standard form of uglies. Diatom bloom(s) and possible algae such as cyno or green hair. You really don't have a way around it if you take dry and move to your established.

Think of it like this. You have an existing tank and aquascape. Take one of your rocks on the mid tier of your scape and look at it. Facing the rock you will see it mature with possible color, corraline algae, and other forms of the biological filter. If you take that rock out, rotate it, and place it back the side that wasn't facing you is moon rock white, bare, and looks like what you placed in the tank on day one. In about 2 or 3 weeks it will look like what you originally had.

My point is this. Yes, you can. Just expect some form of mini cycle as it relates to the rock maturing and getting its biological filter. TL:DR - diatoms and possible algae (GHA).

You will get Diatoms again. But not to the extent you got the first time. Just let them do their ugly thing. I have taken items out and added items regularly. No big issues other than diatoms. It will NOT be a cycle. You won’t get an ammonia or nitrite spike.

Thanks for the advise everyone I plan on adding a small rock formation for my zoas & starting a garden. Just wanted to punch some holes in it so the plugs would fit.
