Adding more rock

if I am wanting to add more rock (dry) to my tank, do I have to let the rock cycle outside the Display tank? or Can you let it cycle in established Tank,

You will need to cycle the rock out of the tank, which is called curing.

If you add the dry rock straight to the tank your going to have nutrient issues, cause ammonia spikes, and cause a mini cycle/ reg cycle.

You may also see nutrients and major elements (like alkalinity) start to shift and go out of wack too. Definitely worth curing outside of the tank.
