Hey guys,

So, just traded up for about 45 lbs of dry pukani. I’ve got it bleach curing in the back yard right now, but my question is, after curing, how much would be safe to add to my tank? My tank was established years before I bought it and I’ve had it almost a year now. It’s got sand in it and maybe 60-70 lbs of rock in it already. I’m looking to add maybe half of what I have curing and using the other half for a biocube.

There is no danger in adding any of it to an established tank.

Having said that. You might want to consider putting it somewhere off to the side, under existing rock, or in the sump for a while if you have space. Brand new sterile live rock is going to be a hair algae magnet under a bright light....

Absolutly fine to add(just make sure you soak again in plain water or RO/DI to get rid of the bleach). Do it myself this afternoon, adding about 25 pounds more pukani to my display. But as said above, dead dry rock will be an alage magnet till it gets some life growing on it. Just be aware.

Sounds good!! Thank y’all! I started the bleach cure Friday evening so I’ll let it soak till Wednesday probably, or till the rock looks white again, and then start doing 100% water changes till it comes down. I’ve also got some intermittent circulation going in the container to make sure things are breaking loose of the rock as it’s being broken down.
