What is thy best approach to adding more sand... unfortunately I didn't add enough sand on initial start up

Get a pipe (PVC) that is slightly longer than the depth of you tank. I use 1 1/2 pipe. Put a wide mouth funnel in the top. Now place the pipe with funnel in your tank all the way to the bottom. Fill the pipe with sand. Slightly lift the pipe off the bottom and let the sand slowly flow out. Move the pipe around spreading the sand. Oh, I forgot, do this with powerheads turned off. Continue filling the pipe with sand until you've added enough. That's it.

No worries about die off of bacteria
nope.
If it came with the "bio magnet". use it.
depending on the tank, Ive just cut the bag and used it like a cake decorating bag.. Ive used those too. avoid fine grain sand. rinse dry sand VERY well.(id cure that)

How many pounds of sand do you have now and how much do you plan on adding? I'd prefer to add new sand in increments (1/4 amount every week) to see how the system reacts. I'd also rinse the sand thoroughly before adding it in. The PVC pipe has worked for me as well
