So after nearly a year of my clowns living homlessley, I decided to pick them up a purple tipped bta.

Any suggestions on acclamation and how to add them? Just place them on the rock with most light and turn off the pumps for a couple of hours to let him move? My pump doesn't support a nem guard but is high up in the tank in a corner.

Cheers

Temp acclimate, try to place in a spot with a hole for the foot to get comfy. You can cut up a net to go around your powerhead until it stays put. Btw, don't feed your nem, feed the tank.

I wouldn’t turn off the powerheads,,,, I would place somewhere it won’t bow away, even if it’s the side of a rock/between rocks, and then watch for awhile.

If you turn off the flow, place it, and turn on the flow, it may start moving then, and then you’ll have hours more of watching yo make sure it doesn’t get sucked up.

I would watch for awhile, plus keep an eye on it up to a couple hours after lights go off, and again after they go back on.

Will do, I get what u mean, they prefare strong flow right? Ovcource I've reaserched before buying, I got into the hobby for the relationship with the clowns. But I want to hear personal opinions and not just Google searches

Yeah, I have the spot I think it would love, a hole on the highest rock that goes allmost to the other side, most light as well.

They do like a lot of flow, but in my experience they like indirect flow. I have six MP40’s on the right half of my tank, and just 2 smaller powerheads on the left side of the tank to keep stuff from building up in the corners over there........

The BTAs have stayed on the left side of the tank (admittedly where I placed them) for the last year plus..... growing and splitting.

My gig is on the right half of the tank, getting absolutely blasted, and it’s doing great there.

When I put a BTA in a nano, I ran it with only the return pump because it was never very happy when I placed even a small powerhead in the small space.

Lots of light, but waving flow, like a gentle breeze seems to be what my BTAs have always liked

I agree with the above. Mine likes flow, but not too much. I temp acclimated and then put a couple of cups of my water into the bag. I had always heard they don't like swings, which is why they need a mature tank. After that, I turned off the powerheads, but only until it attached its foot. Once it had firmly attached, I turned them back on. I didn't have many corals at that point, so my thought was I would let the nem pick where it wanted to be, and then I would start adding corals around it. So I let it move around the tank until it found the spot it liked. Of course, it picked the rock with Xenias. Here it is, almost a year later, it has split eight times.

Thats the nem I got, it's small but stunning. I'm hoping my clowns host it,, I put it under a overhang with strong light and the flow goes through it so id say medium flow. If it moves then it has plenty of spots. I only have 6 frags atm as u said I want the nem to choose where It wants. Mine had bubbled tips in the shop so that's exiting I hope it keeps them

Mine had bubbles too when I first got it, but now they are long. My clowns want nothing to do with it. Depending on the type of clown you have they may not. BTA are not natural host to most clowns.
