Other than QT, do you guys freshwater dip new addition?

If yes, do you float bag first and then FW dip?

If I suspect flukes, a fw dip works well for that. You can literally see them drop off.

It won't help for ich, for example.

A dip isn't a bad idea, just watch the fish to make sure it's handling it okay, and don't expect miracles from it. Matching temp within a couple degrees is necessary.

How about installing UV sterilizer in QT tank and let it run for 2 weeks? Will it kill parasites just like FW dip?

FW dip is really only for anything external parasites at that moment. UV would actually not act much like a FW dip because things like flukes which FW dip primarily treats wouldn’t really end up going through the UV to be affected. With 2 weeks you can pretty much finish up the TTM and it would be way more beneficial if you don’t like using copper. And you can even do FW dips between transfers if you like.

UV will theoretically kill anything that happens to pass through the unit.

They work well for certain algae types. I'm not a fan of them for disease treatment.

If you have a QT, there are better ways to rid fish of disease than UV or freshwater dips. Or do you not QT, and you are looking for ways to help with potential diseases?

Well I have set up a 10 gallon tank that I will be used to QT the fish when they arrive but I prefer to not med them if I don’t need to. It is more for observation. They are $300 pair of designer clown and I don’t want to risk of killing them with med especially I have never med fish. BRS talk about the risk of using medication during QT too.

So I plan to FW dip then put them in QT with in tank UV sterilizer for 2 weeks and observe.

If you aren't medicating (nothing wrong with that), then I would observe longer than 2 weeks.

Good luck with the new clowns.

Thanks.

do I use tap water with prime, or RODI water?

I use UV in my primary QT tank. I don't do freshwater dips without suspicion of flukes, as they tend to be quite harsh on the fish. In general Prazi is so mild that it is the only med I regularly use prophylactically, and with the fish in QT is often easy to administer and less risk to the fish than pulling it and doing a freshwater dip. I generally do prolonged (over 6 weeks) observational QT over heavy prophylactics but captive bred clowns are so hardy I wouldn't worry too much about medications. I haven't used them yet but lots of people are liking H2O2 dips. I haven't felt confident enough to use one on new fish when they first come in, figure enough stress from being shipped, though next time I get a fish from a LFS, I probably will try it. I hear the H2O2 dips are much more mild on the fish than freshwater dips. For freshwater dips I use RODI, and like said match temp and ph. Even then it still tends to stun the fish, so it's important to keep the fish swimming in the dip. I tend to sort of heard them around with a chopstick. I haven't had any fish die from a freshwater dip but had some that took a while to recover from it.

how do you match ph?

It has been a long time since I have used a freshwater dip, so I would recommend researching it for yourself, but if I remember right kalk or baking soda to go up, and vinegar or muriatic acid to go down.

some on youtube suggested using regular tap water and add prime in it. what do you think?

why risk some unknown contaminant over what is a few pennies of RODI water?
I have RODI so pennies are not the issue. I think the guy on youtube said something about so it is not losing a lot of ph or something like that. Some also use seachem ph buffer. What happens if ph does not match?

it overly stresses the fish. Freshwater dips are already very stressful and often stun the fish, PH or temp mismatch exacerbates that.
