Good morning,

So I made my first "big tank" purchase I guess you can say. I just went from a 54 gallon Red Sea 250 to a 108 gallon (display) Reefer 525xl. I'm really not heavily stocked, especially for my new tank. Mandarin Dragonet, Toby Puffer, Two small Ocellaris Clownfish, a Spotted Goby, firefish, dottyback, african blenny and a cleaner shrimp. How long do you think I should wait to add any new fish to the tank?

How long has it been set up? The mandarin may have a tough go of it. They need a good established pod population and new tanks don’t have that. You will need to supplement pods weekly for a few months to keep him healthy and fed.

I would wait until things are stable in the new tank and all of your current fish have settled in well. Just make sure that your bacteria can handle the fish you have now with ease before adding any more.

Did you move over your rocks from your existing tank? If its new rock I'd take it slow on adding fish. Also, what kind of dottyback do you have in there. Certain ones can be pretty darn aggressive and might present problems with new additions.

He eats Mysis Shrimp as well. Just moved everything on Sunday.

I moved All of my rock (plus added some), my marine pure blocks, as well as rubble from my old refugium.

I have a Purple Stripe Dottyback. He's a little territorial, but leaves the bigger fish alone generally.

Moving all that over should have things in pretty good shape. I'd say give the fish a couple weeks to get used to the new digs and go from there. Disclaimer - I'm only a little over a year in to the saltwater world, so I'd defer to those with more years of experience than me.

I had a regular purple dottyback, and that little ******* was a psychopath lol. Glad to hear yours isn't too bad

If you want to add a more peaceful fish, now might actually be a good time... before the dottyback recognizes the new tank as his territory
