ive been thinking of adding some new sand to my tank since I don’t have much in my tank at all maybe 15lb in a 36bow just took what I had in my 14g biocube and added it over. I’m waning to add some bigger sand what I have now is a fine dust.
I watched a video and it said to do a little at a time maybe add little on part of tank and wait a week and add a little more.
What are y’all tips and have you done it.
And will adding new sand cause a new algae outbreak

That is what I'd do so you do not bury the life you have, either add 1/2" at a time each few days/week, or half of tank, then other half a week later, and the 2nd option is what I would do.

I would use dry sand so there is no die off/semi cycle issues, I'd rinse well in DI water, I'd grab a PVC tube, plastic baggy cover one end and use rubber band to secure baggy, fill w/ sand.
I'd place tube where you want sand and use grabbers or tongs to pull baggy off and let sand pour out, baggy will float up to grab it.

This is what I've done many times.

I forgot to add that my tank has lots of corals

Here's what to do.

Get a pipe that's a little longer than the depth of your tank....maybe about 5-6 inches of so, but it's not critical. I use 1 1/2 PVC pipe when I'm adding sand.

Put this pipe all the way down to the bottom of your tank. With pumps off, and using a funnel, fill the pipe up with sand. Now oh so slightly lift the pipe off the bottom of the tank while you're moving it about to distribute the sand. Repeat until you have all the sand in your tank. And that should do it.

That is excellent way to do it

I would also do it just with a pipe that way you can put sand exactly where you needed and a much as need without hurting nothing .
