I had taken out some sand about 5 weeks ago because it had dinflagellates on it into a bucket. I'd say like a good lb. I want to add it back. It has been cleaned in RO water and the sand has been dry now for about 2 weeks. How do I add it back without causing a diatom bloom? Or is it not avoidable?

Use a piece of pvc pipe to pour the sand down and lay it directly on the bottom. Do it a little at a time and you shouldn't have a problem

I agree with Meredith's recommendation.

I agree with @melypr1985 also. Just do it slowly and you shouldn't notice any spikes. I'd add it over the course of 7-10 days, maybe more, depending on the size of the tank and how old it is.
