So…trying to boost copepod population in my Fluval 16 tank. Live sand and about 12 lbs of live rock going.

we added a bottle of reef nutrition tig pods, but it seems my two clowns decimated the bottle and we haven’t seen any since a couple days after adding.

we also had an early pod bloom but the clowns crushed those too.

Any advice on keeping these things alive long enough to breed? Or at least start sustaining themselves?

we feed tank heavy already…and we tried adding some phyto with the pods to boot.

any help appreciated.

Reef nutrition Tig copepods are a great food source but there's a down fall to them . The Astaxanthin they produce ( carotenoids) makes them stick out like a sore thumb . Reef nutrition uses a green house to grow these that's why you're seeing the bright orange coloration. Maybe try a different species to help seed the tank . Rest assured though that your clowns had a really nice nurturing meal if they did eat them all lol

You will almost always have a very low density in such a low tank with 2 clowns, unless you have a refugium of some sort but it really isnt necessary on that size tank

+1 on adding pods at night. I usually feed little live phyto every day and the pods in my fuge are out of control. If the pods are only in the DT and you have no fuge I recommend getting a “pod hotel” and try to dump your pods near it so they can have a little safe place without being haunted all the time.
