I just received a Biota Yellow Tang a few weeks ago, doing great, small guy about the size of a silver dollar. I have a Biota Purple Tang coming that is a little bigger than the yellow about 1.5"-2" according to Biota. Only other fish in the tank are a flame angel and 2 clowns. Being so young will they work it out with themselves? I have a 210g 6' tank.

I have both of those ready to go, my hope is that the purple being slightly larger will give it a better shot and both are still young - looking back I should have ordered them at the same time. live and learn! haha

Do you have a QT/holding tank you could put the yellow in until the purple comes to add together? If not its good to add yellow first, purples are meaner in my experience

Yellow is in the tank and has had a super easy time acclimating, no stress and already beginning to color up. He's pretty chill with my flame and clowns, he did some usual sizing up but that was it. He's eating frozen pellets and flake, no nori yet - hes a tiny guy though 1.25" roughly.

Adding the purple after yellow is your best bet and should work out well. Have an acclimation box available should there be squabbling which should be temporary

Perfect, I have the acclimation box ready, but hopefully they work it out pretty quickly being young. Always wanted this duo and saw a lot of videos of people having success so figured younger the better on this!

Ah well I think it will be okay since the purple isnt a full size and still tiny!

I have a large Atlantic Blue and added a small biota yellow…No problem, in fact there is some interaction…I think
That's awesome! My only worry was due to the yellow and purple being in the same family of tangs. I plan to add a Naso and an achilles down the road, but going to let these guys hang out for a while since theyre on the smaller side.

The Atlantic blue has a yellow juvenile phase NTM they are in a different genus than Pacific Yellow tangs…
So I figure that yellow phase in the Atlantic tangs must have reason, perhaps reducing aggression from adults (speculating)
Anyway the Atlantic tang has been pretty hard on new fish but had zero reaction to the yellow tang

Update: no issues at all, some sizing up, but within the hour they were swimming together and ate before lights off!

I added my yellow and Tomini to an established juvie sailfin. Zero fighting. Oddly they school. I did nothing to prepare them.

that’s awesome! I do think them being so young helped my odds here haha, I wonder how welcoming they’ll be when I add an Achilles next year haha
