i have a couple of pieces of rock that have been dry in my garage for 8 or 9 months, they were dry rock when I bought them and were in my tank for the first 4 months or so when I decided to take them out, now I want to add them back in the tank and wondered if I should do anything like soak them or anything? I’m also wanting to add some sand, I have less than 2 inches in the tank now, and want to add about another inch and a half or so, can I just put it on top of the existing sand?

The safest way would be to put it in a bucket of salt water and a heater for about a month and cure it. If it will represent a very small fraction of your total live rock you could clean it as best as possible, rinse it with RO/DI and put it in.

For the sand, rinse it in a bucket with a hose until clear, then with RO/DI and add over a few days.
