I just ordered a 4 stage rodi system from BRS. Has pressure gauge and TDs meter. Would like to add a 4 gallon reservoir tank to the filter. What is required. I'm positive I can handle plumbing in the supply and waste lines. I'm wondering more about auto shut off. I realize when the tank pressure and water pressure equalize the tank will stop filling. But will the water pressure continue to flow through the filter system as waste water? I'd like it to fill the tank and then completely stop water flow. Refilling the tank automatically as needed. I just sent picture what would stop the water flow from all becoming waste water and heading down the drain after the tank is filled.

I would not recommend running the rodi on the ATO container. You will get tds creep and your di will exhaust quickly this way. Better to run as much as can at one time then shut off the system until needed again.

I assume you are talking about a pressre tank uch as used fo drinking water? If so you do not want to store RO/DI in a bladder or pressure tank but you can send RO only to the pressure tank for drinking and cooking and still have RO/DI for the reef. Follow this diagram and note it needs and autoshutoff valve (ASOV) and check valve to work properly and isolate the RO from the RO/DI:

I suggest this DIY drinking water kit which includes the tank and ASOV, all you need to add is a check valve found at most hardware stores for less than $10.
RO/DI Filter Add On Kits : Drinking water add on

It is very easy to install in less than 30 minutes tops.

OK so you don't want want to store the deionized in a pressurized tank. My first filter set up and will be used exclusively for mixing saltwater and fresh top off. What is the best way to set up. I'd like to have it fairly convenient. Not opposed to it being a bit of a process. But I did purchase the unit to simplify water changes and top offs. No more hauling water. So id rather not have to go through the trouble of hooking up the filter to a water supply monitoring it while it fills a 5 gallon bucket then unhooking it. And storing the unit and water. At that point a trip to the store for water seems to be about the same effort minus the $200 investment. How do you guys run your systems?

I bought the unit hoping to just have quality water at hand whenever needed. Is this not the case?

Store to RO/DI water in something like a Rubbermaid Brute trashcan or other non-pressurized vessel. Presure tanks have issues, most water quality related. The really bad part is every time pressure is depleted in the oressure tank your RO/DI comes on and replenishes it, causing short cycling and exhausting your DI resin. You want to make RO/DI water in nice long filter runs, say 5-10 gallons or more at a time to lessen the effects of TDS creep.

Some people use a float valve in the Brute to shut the flow off once full. Myself, I like more positive control so I use two float switches and a solenoid valve. The switches are set 12" apart so the RO/DI must drop at least 11 measured gallons before the RO/DI comes back on again to fill my 23 gallon Rubbermaid recycling can ATO storage vessel. I keep 23 gallons in the ATO storage and have 5 or 6 5G drinking water jugs and a few of the blue cube type water jugs on hand at all times for large water changes.
