Hi All,
so i have been without sand in the front of my tank for several months now and i would like to add a few inches back into my tank. Currently, the bottom of my tank is nothing but crushed coral (with most of the sand pushed in the back due to the power heads). When i first started up my setup i had a few lbs of sand left that over (unused). i just rinsed out the new sand, but i didnt know if adding unused sand to my existing setup was a good idea or bad idea. any info would be helpful. i have a 72 gallon bow front and i would be looking to add about 5-10 lbs of new sand.

thanks

I've added new sand in the past without a problem - other than a little bit of cloudiness for a couple hours. I added half a bag at a time - but that was in a 180 gallon tank. If I were you, I would add a couple pounds at a time over the course of a week just to be on the safe side - but if your tank is well established and the sand is clean, I would doubt there would be a problem to add the total amount..... I just like to be safe vs sorry!!
