Adding snails to rocks in Brute

I got 50 cerrith snails in and added them to my DT, which is 32 gallons. I have an algae issue due to high phosphates. I will be cycling about 75 lbs of rock in a 44 gallon Brute trash can. I'm guessing I need to add light so algae will grow for the snails right?

If it's live rock, they will start by consuming the film alagae and other organisms that are on the rock. When this runs out, their diet will need to be supplemented- this could be in the form of algaes or other foods. If it's dry rock, you will need to supplement their diet from the get go. This will be difficult initially.

I cycled the rocks starting in February. Since mid-May they have just been sitting in the salt water and the temp has gone down to the 50s. Would it be better to redo the brute, 100% water change, bacteria additive, and circulation, or is it better to put all that I can into the sump?

Are you adding the snails to cycle the rock? If so why not just use ammonia directly?

I have too many in my DT. Just hoping to move some so they don't die.

No problem. I guess dying snails in a brute cycling rocks is also better than them dying in my DT.
