Adding STAX

Hi,
I'm planning on adding some STAX dry rock to my established reef tank and I'm wondering if(besides rinsing it) can I just put it right into my DT? I'm planning on just creating a higher "shelf structure" on one side of my tank. The tank has been up almost two years. Just wondering if their is any point to qt/cure the rock if it's dry rock. Overall I will probably end up adding around 10lbs in my 105 gallon tank. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks Rich

I would soak it in some tank water for as long as possible to get rid of the silicates unless your okay with a little bit of diatoms

Hmmm, first I've heard of silicates in oolitic limestone in any appreciable amounts... If you give it a good rinse, which all dry rock should be rinsed well, it shouldn't be an issue.

Definitely rinse it but I used staxx for two of my tanks. First time I just rinsed and had good bit of algae for a while. Second time, I left it in a bucket for a month and I only had diatoms for a week. Both ways will work but expect to have diatoms. The staxx rocks have a ton of dust so rinse really well. I'm assuming it was the silicates leaching. Just my two cents

Definately possible, just first I've heard of it. Your two cents are worth far more than two cents.

Thank you for the info above. I added Stax in my aquarium about a week ago after a rinse and soak for about 2 hours and on some it is building up diatoms.
