Right now I have a 20gallon IM AIO, I was wondering if it would be possible to add a HOB overflow and add a sump, while keeping the normal AIO filter running too?

Should be able to put a hob inside the return section the route the return through the normal spots.

Just be careful of flow...you don't want to add too much to the AIO part that it will slow flow to the drain too much. I know if my floss clogs it slows the flow. Probably safer to be on the side of caution and have the return pump a lower flow so the drains can easily handle it even if they get clogged a bit.

I had an AIO, (no back chambers; just an aquaclear filter) that I added a sump later. I used a HOB overflow and actually used the aquaclear filter on the sump for a while until I thought the sump had enough bio-life.
