I first added water to my 150g tank on March 3, 2023. After cycling, first fish were added May 19 (5 dispar anthias and one sand sifting goby.) 3 more fish are going in next week (Mystery Wrasse, Scott's Wrasse and Firefish.). During this entire time, the lights have stayed off.

I am now planning on adding 2-3 Tangs. Probably Purple Tang, captive bred Yellow tan and either a Convict tang or a Kole.

My question is when should I turn the lights on? I currently have no algae in the tank to speak of. I know that once I turn the lights on, the algae will start so I am wondering how far in advance of adding the tangs should I light the tank?

Thanks!

Tangs are algae grazers, I would turn the lights on before getting them. I dont think you are going to be able to avoid the "ugly algae" stage if that is what you are trying to do. Turn the lights on and face it head on!
