I wish to add a Powder Blue Tang and a couple small Yellow Tangs.

I have a resident King of the Tank Gem Tang, about 3", that I want to protect.

Am I correct...Powder Blue is different type of tang (no big problems they cannot get over), but Yellow are same type of tang (and can be some species fighting).

But if I add all three at once...the Gem would have too much new to pick on any one newbie?

ANY RULE OF THUMB ADVICE PLEASE????? From the R2R Experts. Thank you.

Your tank is too small for multiple tangs. I know via experience. Tangs are TERRITORIAL....The bigger the tank, the better.

Really depends on size. You will need to upgrade your tank if you intend on keeping long term. Also increase flow. This will help ensure they are getting adequate exercise which helps with reducing aggression issues

I had over 47 fish in my 225, including 12+ tangs LOL. This140 gal tank only has 2 tangs, one small and one medium plus small clown and some very small anthias.

Sounds like you already had an established tank with MANY tangs.....just use the same process you did on your 225g.

If you had 12+ in that one just go with your gut with what you feel comfortable with.

You want to add a powder blue and two yellows to existing gem, tomini, and blue tangs in a Red Sea 500? I would not recommend that.

Sorry but why not? Tank looks fish empty. I have big skimmer, huge algae refugium plus biopellet reactor, and about to add a roller filter to replace socks.

A Red Sea 500 is a 4x2 tank. It's smaller than what is recommended for a blue (Atlantic or regal) or a powder blue tang.

Mixing yellows can be difficult, and I wouldn't recommend trying in this tank size either.
