Greetings all.
I'm considering adding part c to Randy/Jim's true two part. I'm concerned that it would be adding too much magnesium. I guess that the question is do you think it's beneficial over what I am doing now including 10% weekly water changes?

I imagine that I would just eliminate the mag chloride and sulfate from the recipe and it would be fine.

Anyone else doing this?

Just the thread I was looking for after seeing brsTV recently. I’m.l not sure if the ‘part C’ will have any immediate impact on Mag I thought it’s was more to do with minor trace elements :)

Maybe somebody can help us both.

@Randy Holmes-Farley

The part C should contain a minor part magnesium.
It is composed to complete NaCl to sea water. But it does not contain magnesium for the coral skeletons.
Lets ask @Hans-Werner He developed it.

I use it with esv bionic and it has maintained my mag right were it needs to be. I am currently dosing all parts equally and everything has been stable. This has been for about the last two months. Mag obviously is used up much, much slower than alk an cal so the minimal mag found in part "c" has held my mag steady with daily dosings. And I get the advertised benefit of an ionically balanced tank or so TP says. So far so good so no complaints here.
And NO I'm in no way the "big guns" you speak of.
Again @Hans-Werner

What concentration are you mixing the TM part c at? (How many scoops per gallon?) I’m also dosing B ionic and wanted to add this to my dosing regimen.

Tropic Marin C is a NaCl free Salt Mixture.
It‘s job is to dose major/minor elements besides CalciumCarbonate (which is done by A and B already)

Simplified TM-C contains
- Magnesium
- other trace elements

NaCl free salt mixtures are mixed by 25g of it up to 1 Liter of RODI only.

So it makes sense to dose this additionally to 2 part recipes that dose only CalciumCarbonates (Ca and Alk). We can discuss if this is really required. That depends on the salt mix you use AND the consumption of your tanks Mg especially.

If you plan to dose it additionally to recipes that already integrated Mg /trace Elements (like ESV Bionic) you might overdose this.

Just an update from my system. I tested Mag 2 days ago and my reading was around 1410. Not a bad reading but about 60 -80 points higher than what it was. This went up significantly since my last test a few weeks ago. After hearing on here that ESV contained most trace elements it got me wondering if I need part "c". I really need to do an ICP test. I went to the ESV site and was glad I did. From what they say on the site B-Ionic actually contains Mag as well as all minor elements. I've decided to take my part "c" off line for a few weeks to see where my Mag goes. If it drops and stays steady I might keep it off. Again I really need to do an ICP!!! Might run and grab one this week.

I need to find out the usage in comparison with using @Randy Holmes-Farley 2 part and Tropic Marin ‘part c’.

Maybe it’ll work as the 2 part doesn’t contain Mag initially.

I’m just not sure if by using the ‘part c’ Tropic Marin while administering water changes would it create compounding of trace elements?

No the Balling method has the trace elements separate until you mix the three solutions for your dosing buckets.
And I believe the Tropic Marin has the same system.

im following the BRS suggested method , adding TM C to their pharma soda ash and CA. So far maganisum still going down slowly...would love to know what trace elements are in TM C...

did an ICP after 2 months. Iodine was low , and Magnesium was zero... so starting to add those by dosing.

Iron was zero too but triton does not suggest dosing for some reason, would think I would with a refugium..

I got very high chromium and tin...but I doubt this is related to part C trying to figure out source now..

also...sent out TM Pro Salt mixed to 1.026 for ICP to triton, if part C is that without the sodium might give some insight in to at least proporitons of whats in Part C for trace elements...ill share when I get results..

Got icp back on tm pro salt attached... pretty good for most trace...iron and manganese both high but my tank icp are low for both of these all the time so should be good...

Assuming part c is the same blend , should be good for trace element dosing...

What is your current recipe if I may ask? Doing BRS 2 part with TM C and what else? How often are you doing water changes?
